County Retreat Juddville, Wisconsin The Cottage is located on the western side of the Door County Peninsula with spectacular views of Lake Michigan and the setting sun. Eifler & Associates and the client elected to design the summer home using materials primarily from local sources, emphasizing a regionalistic approach to building. The building is oriented to views of the
lake to the west with extensive use of windows and doors, whereas
the entry side, to the east, is characterized by cedar siding and
long, narrow “strip” windows, for privacy and energy
efficiency. Natural materials such as stone from nearby Sturgeon
Bay, cedar, and Douglas fir are used throughout as interior and
exterior finishes to further reinforce the connection between the
inhabitants and the natural setting. The home is designed to be
in conformance with Wisconsin’s new stringent energy standards. |
